This one was not too pretty but its location and surrounding yards were quite intriguing for some reason. The house is apparently still owned by its former inhabitant, an older women. A neighbor, who told me he was the owner's brother, said she was out of town but would be returning soon. Hopefully she'll come back but who knows.

This old beauty was torn down a few weeks ago. I loved the weathered wood and stark Kelly green trim. It had the prettiest little purple wildflowers growing on the front steps too. These images were taken on three separate occasions and I am sorry to say are not very spectacular. Still, at least I have photographic evidence of its existence.

Poor, amateur shots with my old camera. Still this place was pretty neat. It had not been abandoned long, and it seems the owners, or their family, may likely be back one day soon.

3012 and 3014 P Street.

This was one of the first structures that caught my eye when I started this project several months ago. The contrast of the two homes, one with its front painted white and the other with bare weathered wood, seemed stark and intriguing. I discovered at least one stray cat living on the front porch which was surrounded by empty cans of cat food. The back yard was full of debris. This included the remains of a mattress that had been absorbed by a tree and appeared like a fence around the back corner of the yard. These were two small and simple homes but for some reason I found them quite beautiful.

The building pictured in the bottom photo was at one point, long ago, a pool hall. It is attached to the building on the corner of the block that seems to have been some sort of shop, likely a market, drugstore or florist. The whole complex now sits silent. I love it.

This old one was totally overgrown.

This was one of the only houses left on the block. It looked like it had been vacant for quite some time. It will probably be torn down soon to make room for a row of brand new homes.

1211 26th St. between R and S.

This old house is located on a relatively empty block of a relatively empty part of 26th Street. The modern siding had fallen off most of the house revealing the beautiful old wood beneath it. Perhaps due to hurricane damage or simply age and neglect, the right pillar which held up the porch roof, had fallen and lay haphazardly on the spot it once stood. Alongside this lay portions of the rotting banister that had also collapsed. A wrap-around side porch was wonderfully concealed by overgrown trees and bushes. Behind the house is a complex of several sheds and a large garage, all full of different relics of varying age. Finally, its vintage backyard gate provides the icing on the cake for this old beauty.
